He was not on friendly terms with Jaya-candra of Kanauj, and traditions affirm that when the \expndtw9 latter held a \i svayamvara \i0 (selection of bridegroom) \expndtw5 for his daughter Samyogita, Prithvlraja appeared just \expndtw8 in the midst of the ceremonies and daringly carried \expndtw0 her away. Fie also attacked the Candella king, Paramar-\expndtw-3 di or Paramala (1165-1203 A.D.), and occupied Mahoba \expndtw0 and other fortresses in Bundelkhand. Another contem\-\expndtw6 porary, with whom Prithvlraja probably came into warlike collision, was Bhima II Calukya of Gujarat \i\expndtw5 (circa \i0 1179-1240 A.D.). Prithvlraja was next called \expndtw6 upon\loch\af0\hich\af0\dbch\f2\cchs0 \'97\hich\af0\dbch\af2\loch\f0\cchs0 being lord of the territories of Sambhar and \expndtw2 Delhi\loch\af0\hich\af0\dbch\f2\cchs0 \'97\hich\af0\dbch\af2\loch\f0\cchs0 to resist the attacks of Sihabuddm Ghoti, who \expndtw6 was gradually advancing into the alluring plains of \expndtw4 Hind. In the first engagement at Taroari in H. 587\loch\af0\hich\af0\dbch\f2\cchs0 \'97 \expndtw9\hich\af0\dbch\af2\loch\f0\cchs0 1191 A.D. fortune favoured him, and the Moslem \expndtw4 hosts were so completely overwhelmed that even \expndtw3 Sihabuddm was rescued with difficulty from the furi\-\expndtw5 ous charges of ths Cauhans.\super 2\nosupersub  This rout constantly \expndtw9 troubled the Sultan, and accordingly the very next \expndtw7 year, in H. 588\loch\af0\hich\af0\dbch\f2\cchs0 \'97\hich\af0\dbch\af2\loch\f0\cchs0 1192 A.D., he returned to Hindus\-\expndtw6 tan with a re-organised force to avenge it.
